NUSC Newsletter - November 2022 Hope our Club Whanau are enjoying the start of some warmer weather as we head into the start of our summer sports. In this newsletter, we have a plug for our upcoming AGM, share quick updates on our summer sports, provide snippets of recent events and news, recognise our sponsors and grant funders, profile one of our long-term sponsors, and once again test your knowledge about our Club. Keep scrolling down to get all the details: Club AGM Date: Tuesday 15 November 2022 Time: 7pm Place: Endeavour Primary School, Staff Room The Club AGM provides for a reflection of the past year, review and approval of our annual accounts and the establishment of the committee(s) for the new year. All committee roles are voluntary, and annual, so we once again need new people to come onboard. Our Executive Committee roles (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) require nomination and election. Our current Vice President and Secretary have decided not to stand again. If these or any of our other roles are of interest to you please contact Perry president.northernunited@gmail.com or Shelley northernunited.secretary@gmail.com. You can view all our position descriptions, including the level of commitment, on our website: https://www.northernunitedfootball.co.nz/.../our-club-roles Outside of the committee there are also a host of ways you can get involved before, during and after each season including coaching, team management, working bees and event support. We are a big Club, so the more help, the lighter the load. We look forward to seeing many of you at the AGM. |
Junior Cricket We are underway with running cricket at the club which we are excited about. In term 4 we will be fielding 8 teams, 5 Friday night softball teams, and 3 Saturday morning hardball teams. A special welcome if you have joined our club for the first time. We once again would like to thank our local schools, Rototuna, Hukanui, Te Totara, Endeavour, Te Ao Marama, Puketaha, Hamilton Christian, for giving us their support and for their generous donations of equipment. A grant from the Dragon Community Trust was also gratefully received which means all our cricket teams are well set up with a mix of new and used equipment. |

Futsal Current Futsal registrations, significantly impacted by covid in the last couple of years, are our highest on record, with a staggering 287 players, including over 70 in our First Futsal program. 45% of our registrations did not play football for NUSC in 2022, meaning we are delighted to be welcoming some high school students, football players from other clubs who might not offer Futsal as well as those that choose to play a different winter sport. |

Six a Side Football League Hare Puke Park will be a hive of activity on Thursday evenings over summer with the introduction of our own six-a-side league. With a total of 42 teams entered across multiple junior and senior leagues games will run from 4pm to 8pm each week. Weir Rosebowl Tournament We entered three Under 12 girl’s teams in the Weir Rose Bowl festival tournament. Playing under the NUSC logo these teams brought together players from several clubs and schools. While the teams went without a win, the festival provided a positive learning experience, bonding, fun and laughter. The girls are thankful to our club and local community for supporting their fundraising efforts with many a car washed, and sausage sold. |

First Kicks Tournament Our First Kicks Tournament was a real blast with all our players dressing up for the occasion. We had three competitions running with some fab prizes up for grab from Rototuna Paper Plus and Dominoes and yummy treats for the kids from New World Rototuna and Sweet as Popcorn. Huge thanks to those businesses for helping reward our hardworking footballers. |
Senior Football Highlight In our first full and uninterrupted season since 2019, we had our first ever win in the Chatham Cup. Also our men’s team, the Humblebees, beat Claudelands Rovers, effectively in a final, on the last day of the season to win Waikato division two league title. The game happened to coincide with our senior prize-giving and thus added a little extra cheer to a fun night. |
FIFA Women’s World Cup Draw Four of our junior football players had an epic day last Saturday as flag bearers at the FIFA WWC Draw in Auckland. Ashley Ridge, Isabelle White, Cam Smith, and James Newland did our club proud - as did all the children there - such great ambassadors for football. A highlight for the kids was being Hi-5ed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. He arrived on the green carpet with such energy and seemed to really enjoy himself, and he engaged with every kid who was holding a flag. |

Gear Return Amnesty Have you just done a spring clean and found some club owned gear (shirt, balls, bibs, pop up goals, player of the day trophy) that you don’t know how to return? Easy, just head along to the Peak between 5:30pm and 7pm Monday 7th November 2022 and meet our Football Gear Co-Ordinator, Ian, in the foyer. Community Centre (Club Rooms) We have long held an ambition to have a place we can call home. While we will not be getting clubrooms, we are partnering with the Hamilton City Council for a potential community centre to be located at Korikori Park with our club expected to be the largest user. Some money was set aside in the last Council Long Term Plan with the Council about to kicking off a needs analysis and feasibility study. World Cup Lottery Congratulations to our former club member and Committee member Brooke MacDonald who was one of the winners of the New Zealand Football Foundation lottery. As a Club we sold 67 tickets which means the Club will be receiving $670 which we will be putting to a planned initiative involving our ethnic communities. |

Football Shirt Sponsorship In 2023 we will be replacing all our football playing shirts, which provides an opportunity for a Sponsor to partner with us. Could you help the Club find a new shirt-naming Sponsor? It is our members, not a Sponsorship Manager, that have relationships with potential sponsors. Help find a naming rights sponsor and be rewarded with up to $500 of club memberships and/or merchandise. For more information or expressions of interest please email president.northernunited@gmail.com Grants As a charity we can apply for grant funding. At the end of last year, the Club Committee made the decision to engage a contractor to assist us with grant applications. Despite covid having a significant impact on the amount of money Funders have had available, as a Club we have been awarded, this calendar year, grants of $70,000 from 9 different funders. This funding has helped us cover some of our operating costs, allowing us to replace our football playing shirts in 2023 and enabled us to equip our cricket teams with new training and playing kit. |

Sponsors In 2022 as a Club, we were grateful to again have the support of several sponsors. We hope you will support these businesses over the summer, although perhaps some of them in moderation! - Domino’s Rototuna – football player of the day vouchers
- Texas Pete – volunteer of the week voucher
- Keg Room - after match functions for Senior Men’s football, player of the day vouchers for Netball, hosts of Senior prizegiving
- Good Neighbour Rototuna – after match functions for Women’s football (and hosted our Champions league breakfast)
- Hillcrest Physiotherapy - Netball

Sponsor Profile In each of our newsletters we will look to profile one of our sponsors. First up is the Keg Room, where strangers become friends and friends become family. Owned by the lovely Andy and Mel, the Keg have been long time friends and supporters of NUSC, particularly Senior Football and Netball. Each Saturday there is always a steady flow of Northern and opposition teams headed to the Keg from mid-afternoon to enjoy the great hospitality and relaxed environment the Keg has to offer. And then there are our annual prize giving nights when things go to a whole new level! Thursday quiz nights and Sunday lunches are popular with punters but be sure to give the Keg a call when considering your next night out or function. |
